The First Prototype

This picture is our earliest prototype. Before this, we had gone through a great deal of concept generation. As seen in the milestones, our entire team had gone through idea generation together, thinking of everything from software applications to regular hardware that could easily be 3D-printed. The picture here is an example of the latter and the idea we had stuck with through the project. It is is a customized pill-bottle cap for our patient, Ms. Lui to help ease the task of her taking her daily medication. At this point in time, it is simply a cap that goes on top of the pill bottle and a pill can be dispensed by tipping it over.

The Design Review

This step was crucial to getting to our final prototype. We were able to meet with mentors that were experienced in their fields and able to give very insightful feedback.
We realized beforehand that our design needed a better locking mechanism to make sure that it wouldn't spill unnecessarily if it were dropped or if she were travelling with it for example. The mentors were able to give us advice on how to implement this. We also knew that she took many different types of pills and thus the cap needed to accommodate different pill sizes, the mentors also helped us discover what would be the best way to do this.

The Final Prototype

After implementing all the changes that I mentioned above and the images to the right are the final product. The final product is a customized pill bottle cap that has a rotating disk inside with multiple different sizes for pills. All the user has to do is invert the pill bottle until the disk is moved slightly to rotate it from the window on the side. The pill can then be easily dispensed. This reduces the number of times that the user will have to completely open and close the bottle.
